Gemini + Google Business Profile: What It Does and Why the UK Doesn’t Have It Yet

📢 Story broke: 10 June 2026 — Google official announcement
Google just gave Gemini direct access to your Google Business Profile data — reviews, questions, performance metrics, the lot. If you’re in the USA, you might already have it. If you’re in the UK, you don’t, and Google hasn’t said when you will. Here’s exactly what the feature does, what it doesn’t do yet, and what to use in the meantime.
On 10 June 2026, Google announced a set of new Gemini features built specifically for small business owners. The headline change: you can now connect your Google Business Profile directly to the Gemini app, turning it into what Google calls “a deeply knowledgeable, in-pocket partner that natively understands your business.”
That’s Google’s own framing, and it’s worth treating it as exactly that — a company describing its own product, not an independently verified performance claim. But the underlying feature is real, it’s rolling out now, and it’s worth understanding properly rather than skimming a press release. Here’s what it actually does, who has it, and — if you’re reading this from the UK — what to do until it arrives.

What the Feature Actually Does
Once a business owner connects their Google Business Profile to Gemini, the app gains direct access to that profile’s data: customer reviews, the questions customers have asked, performance metrics like search impressions and direction requests, and call data where available. With that context, a business owner can ask Gemini a question like “how did my business do this month?” and get an answer grounded in their actual numbers — not a generic explanation of what metrics matter.
Beyond analysis, Google says Gemini can help draft replies to customer reviews, generate posts for the Business Profile, summarise customer feedback, and surface business insights including the specific search keywords customers are using to find the business. This is the same category of task the CRAFT Method already helps with manually — the difference here is that Google is building the data connection in natively, rather than requiring the owner to copy and paste reviews into a separate AI tool.

Proactive Alerts
Business notebooks surface alerts about unanswered questions, missing holiday hours and pricing suggestions without being asked.
What Are “Business Notebooks”?
Alongside the Business Profile connection, Google introduced a second new feature called Business notebooks — described as a focused workspace where an owner can organise chats, sources and their connected profile data in one place. The proactive element is the more interesting part: Google says notebooks will surface alerts on their own, including reminders to set holiday opening hours, suggestions for improving pricing or product positioning, and ideas for promotional campaigns — without the owner needing to open the app and ask.
💡 What This Actually Means in Practice
Think of Business notebooks as a lightweight, free local SEO assistant living inside an app you already check. If it works as described, the value isn’t the AI chat itself — it’s the proactive nudge. Most small business owners don’t update their Business Profile because they forget, not because they don’t know how. A feature that taps you on the shoulder when your holiday hours are missing is solving a real, common problem.
Why the UK Doesn’t Have This Yet
⚠️ Confirmed: Not Available in the UK or EEA at Launch
Multiple independent sources confirm that Google’s Help Center documentation explicitly lists the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom as excluded from the initial rollout. Google has described the rollout as “global” in its announcement language, but the practical detail in its own support documentation tells a more limited story. No specific UK launch date has been given.
This is a pattern Google has followed before with AI features — UK and EU rollouts often lag US availability by weeks or months, generally attributed to the additional regulatory considerations under GDPR and the UK’s own data protection framework. There’s no official confirmation of why this specific feature is delayed, but the pattern is consistent enough that UK business owners shouldn’t expect a fast follow.
Who Has Access Right Now, Even in Eligible Regions
Even where the feature is technically available, Google’s own Help Center documentation lists some real constraints worth knowing before you go looking for it:
Single profile only
The feature is unavailable to owners or managers who have access to more than one verified Business Profile — which rules out most agencies and multi-location operators for now.
Verified ownership required
You must be a verified owner or manager of the Business Profile in question — not simply someone with viewing access.
Gemini app required
Access comes through the Gemini app specifically, not through Google Search or Maps directly.
What to Do Instead If You’re in the UK
The good news: almost everything this feature promises can be approximated today, for free, using tools that are already available everywhere — including the UK. It takes a few more manual steps, but the outcome is close.
✅ The Free Workaround — Available Today, No Waiting
For review analysis and replies: Copy your reviews from Google Business Profile (Profile → Reviews → select all → copy) and paste them into ChatGPT or Google’s own NotebookLM. Ask what patterns appear, then use a CRAFT Method prompt to draft replies in your own tone — see our guide to AI review responses for ready-made prompts.
For performance tracking: Google Business Profile’s own dashboard already shows search impressions, calls and direction requests — the same data Gemini would draw on. Check it weekly rather than waiting for a proactive nudge.
For missing information alerts: Set a recurring calendar reminder — monthly is enough — to check your profile for missing holiday hours, outdated photos or unanswered questions. It’s the manual version of what Business notebooks will eventually do automatically.

5 CRAFT Method Prompts That Save 5 Hours This Week
Until Gemini’s proactive features land in the UK, these copy-paste prompts handle review replies, social posts and customer communications manually. Free, works today.
Announced by Google on 10 June 2026, the feature connects the Gemini app directly to a business owner’s Google Business Profile data — customer reviews, questions, performance metrics, search impressions and engagement data. Once connected, a business owner can ask Gemini questions like ‘how did my business do this month?’ and get an analysis based on their actual profile data, plus draft review replies, generate posts and get alerts about unanswered questions or missing information.
Not yet. Multiple sources confirm the rollout, which began in June 2026, explicitly excludes the European Economic Area and the UK at launch. Google has not given a specific date for UK availability. Business owners in the UK currently cannot connect their Google Business Profile to Gemini and should use alternative free tools — such as ChatGPT with manually exported review data, or Google’s own Business Profile manager — until the feature becomes available.
Business notebooks are a new Gemini feature designed as an organised workspace for a small business — combining chats, sources and the connected Business Profile data in one place. Google says notebooks proactively surface alerts such as unanswered customer questions, reminders to set holiday opening hours, suggestions for improving pricing or product positioning, and ideas for promotional campaigns, without the owner needing to ask.
Google has not confirmed a separate cost for the Business Profile connection or Business notebooks as of this update. Access currently comes through the standard Gemini app. Google has indicated that specific Workspace and Gemini business offers will be introduced in future, which may include paid tiers, but the initial rollout has not been gated behind a new charge.
UK business owners can replicate much of the value today using free tools already available. Copy reviews from Google Business Profile and paste them into ChatGPT or Google NotebookLM to analyse patterns and draft replies. Use the CRAFT Method prompt structure to generate professional review responses and social posts manually. Set a calendar reminder to check Business Profile directly for missing information, upcoming holiday hours and unanswered questions until the proactive alert feature becomes available in the UK.
