How to Get More Google Reviews Using AI (Without Feeling Pushy)
The Reason You Don’t Have More Reviews Isn’t Your Service — It’s That You Never Ask. Here’s the Fix.
By Kieron Penrose, Creator of the CRAFT Method · 10 July 2026 · 🕐 9 min read
How do you get more Google reviews? Ask every happy customer, at the right moment, with a short pre-written message that makes leaving a review effortless — then follow up once with anyone who forgets. AI writes these requests for you in seconds, so the awkwardness disappears and the asking actually happens. Never buy or incentivise reviews; a steady flow of genuine ones is what lifts your ranking and your reputation.

90 daysa steady trickle of fresh reviews lifts your local ranking within months, not years
Recencyrecent reviews count as much as your total — old five-stars fade
Reviews are the single most powerful thing you can control in local business — and almost nobody works them properly. They’re the loudest signal in the Google Maps 3-pack. They’re what AI assistants read to decide who to recommend. And they’re the first thing a human checks before calling you. Three birds, one stone.
So why is your review count stuck? Not because your work isn’t good. It’s because asking feels awkward, so the request never gets sent. You finish the job, the customer’s delighted, and the moment passes. Multiply that by every happy customer this year and you can see the reviews you’ve quietly left on the table.
AI fixes the exact thing that’s broken: the writing and the asking. This guide gives you a simple, repeatable system and the free prompts to run it — so the request goes out every time, sounds like you, and never feels pushy.
Keep it genuine — this matters. Only ever ask real customers for honest reviews. Never buy reviews, never offer a discount or freebie in exchange for one, and never write fake ones. It breaks Google’s rules, it’s easy to spot, and it can get your profile penalised. Everything in this guide is about making it easy for genuinely happy customers to share their honest experience.
💡 How to use the prompts in this guide
Every prompt uses the CRAFT Method — Context, Role, Ask, Format, Tone. Fill in the [BRACKETED BITS] with your real details, paste into ChatGPT (free), and save the output where you can grab it after every job. Set it up once; use it forever.
Think about your own behaviour. When you’re choosing a tradesperson, a restaurant or a dentist, you look at the star rating and read a few reviews before you do anything else. So does everyone else — and so does Google, and so does ChatGPT.
Reviews carry serious weight for your Google Maps ranking, and it’s not only the total that counts. Velocity and recency matter too — a steady stream of new reviews signals an active, trusted business, while a pile of five-stars from three years ago quietly loses value. On top of that, AI assistants read your reviews to work out what you’re actually good at. A review that names your service and your town is worth far more than a bare “Great!”. Reviews are trust and ranking fuel and AI training data all at once.
2. Why you’re not getting them (be honest)
The blockers are almost always the same three: it feels awkward to ask, you never have the words ready in the moment, and there’s no system so it only happens when you remember. Every one of those is a writing-and-habit problem, not a service problem — which is exactly why AI solves it. It hands you the words, ready to go, so the ask becomes a two-second copy-paste instead of an awkward conversation you avoid.
3. The 2-minute review system
Here’s the whole system, and it really is this simple: (1) grab your Google review link once, (2) keep three pre-written messages saved on your phone, (3) send one to every happy customer at the right moment, (4) follow up once with anyone who forgets, and (5) reply to every review that lands. The four prompts below write parts 2 to 5 for you.
First, get your link: search your business name on Google, open your Business Profile, click “Ask for reviews” or “Get more reviews”, and copy the short link. Without that link in your message, most people won’t bother hunting for where to leave a review — even when they want to.
4. Move 1 — Your review-request templates
Prompt 1 of 4 — Start Here
✉️ Write Requests People Actually Respond To
“A good review request is short, warm and makes saying yes effortless. This writes three versions in your voice so you’ve always got the right one ready.”
⚡ Copy and paste this into ChatGPT
You are a customer-communication expert helping a small business get more genuine Google reviews without being pushy.
My business: [describe — e.g. “mobile hairdresser in Nottingham”]
My typical customer: [describe]
My tone: [warm and friendly / professional / casual and local]
My Google review link: [paste it here]
Please write three versions of a review request:
1. A short TEXT message — casual, under 40 words, no pressure, easy yes
2. An EMAIL version — a touch longer, still brief and warm
3. A WHATSAPP version — friendly and personal
For all three:
– Thank them genuinely first
– Make it clear it only takes a moment
– End with my review link on its own line
– Never sound desperate or salesy, and never offer anything in exchange
Give me each version clearly labelled so I can save them to my phone. Spelling: [UK or US].
✅ What you get: Three ready-to-save request messages in your own voice — the end of ever wondering what to write.

5 CRAFT Prompts That Save You 5 Hours This Week
Copy-paste prompts for the everyday jobs that eat your time — reviews, emails, social posts. Works with free ChatGPT. No card needed.
Timing changes everything. Ask while the good feeling is fresh — right after a great result, a warm thank-you, a delighted comment — and your yes-rate jumps. Ask three weeks later and it’s gone cold. And because people are busy, one gentle follow-up recovers a surprising number of reviews that would otherwise never appear.
Prompt 2 of 4
⏰ Nail the Timing and Write the Follow-Up
“Most reviews are lost to bad timing and no follow-up. This tells you exactly when to ask for your type of business, and writes the nudge that recovers the ones who forgot.”
⚡ Copy and paste this into ChatGPT
You are a customer-experience advisor. Help me get my review timing right and write a follow-up.
My business: [describe]
The typical customer journey: [e.g. “book online, I visit, job done same day, invoice after”]
How and when I’m usually in contact with a happy customer: [describe]
Please:
1. Tell me the single best moment to ask a customer like mine for a review, and why
2. Suggest 2 other good moments as backups
3. Write a warm, one-line follow-up message for people who didn’t respond to the first ask — friendly, no guilt-trip
4. Tell me how long to wait before sending the follow-up, and to stop after one
Plain English, practical. Spelling: [UK or US].
✅ What you get: The best moment to ask for your specific business, plus a gentle follow-up that recovers the reviews busy customers meant to leave.
6. Move 3 — Reviews that actually help you rank
A five-star “Brilliant!” lifts your average. A five-star “Brilliant bathroom refit in Sheffield — on time and spotless” lifts your average and tells Google and AI exactly what you’re relevant for. You can’t script your customers, and you shouldn’t try — but you can gently prompt them by example, which nudges more of them toward the specific, useful kind.
Prompt 3 of 4
🎯 Gently Steer Reviews Toward the Useful Kind
“Specific reviews rank you and get you recommended by AI. This nudges customers toward detail — without ever putting words in their mouth.”
⚡ Copy and paste this into ChatGPT
You are a customer-communication expert. Help me gently encourage customers to leave more specific, helpful reviews — without scripting them or offering incentives.
My business: [describe]
My main services and the towns I serve: [list]
Please:
1. Add one natural sentence to a review request that invites the customer to mention what they had done and where — as a suggestion, not an instruction
2. Write two short example review sentences I could show a customer who asks “what should I write?” — realistic, in a customer’s voice, mentioning a service and town
3. Warn me about anything that would cross the line into fake or coached reviews, so I stay genuine and within Google’s rules
Keep it honest and low-pressure. Spelling: [UK or US].
✅ What you get: A light-touch way to encourage detailed reviews that mention your service and town — the reviews that move your ranking and get you named by AI.
7. Move 4 — Reply to every review, fast
Responding to reviews is itself a signal of an active, trusted business — and every reply is read by future customers, not just the person who left it. A calm, professional reply to a bad review can win you more trust than the review cost you. The trouble is finding the right words when you’re busy or, with a harsh review, when you’re annoyed. AI drafts a composed reply in seconds.
Prompt 4 of 4
💬 Draft Calm, Professional Replies to Any Review
“Your reply is read by every future customer who finds the review. This writes the composed version — even when you’re too busy or too annoyed to think straight.”
⚡ Copy and paste this into ChatGPT
You are a reputation-management expert. Write me a reply to this customer review.
My business: [describe]
The review (paste it exactly): [paste the review]
My side of the story, if relevant: [explain briefly — for a negative or unfair review]
My tone: [warm and professional]
Please:
1. Write a reply under 80 words
2. If positive: thank them genuinely, mention the specific thing they praised, keep it human
3. If negative: stay calm and never defensive, acknowledge their experience, briefly and factually give context if there is any, and invite them to contact me directly to put it right
4. Never argue, never blame the customer, never share private details
Give me one ready-to-post reply. Spelling: [UK or US].
✅ What you get: A composed, on-brand reply to any review in seconds — protecting your reputation with every future customer who reads it.

Reviews Are Won or Lost on the Words You Use
These prompts get your reviews flowing. The CRAFT Method ebook teaches you the five-part formula behind them — so you can write your own sharp, on-brand messages for every customer moment in your business, not just reviews.
Ask every happy customer at the right moment with a short, pre-written message that includes your Google review link, then follow up once with anyone who forgets. The reason most businesses have few reviews is that they never ask — AI removes that barrier by writing the requests for you in seconds. Always keep it genuine: never buy, incentivise or fake reviews.
No — asking your genuine customers for honest reviews is allowed and encouraged. What breaks the rules is buying reviews, offering discounts or freebies in exchange for them, writing fake reviews, or selectively asking only your happiest customers while blocking others. Ask everyone, keep it honest, and you’re fine.
Yes. ChatGPT is ideal for this — it writes warm, on-brand review requests for text, email and WhatsApp, and composed replies to reviews (including calm responses to negative ones) in seconds. You give it your business details and tone once, save the outputs, and reuse them. It removes the awkwardness that stops most owners asking.
Ask while the positive feeling is fresh — right after you’ve delivered a great result or received a genuine thank-you. The longer you wait, the lower your response rate. For most businesses that means the same day or within a day or two of finishing the job or visit, followed by a single gentle reminder if they don’t respond.
Yes, always — calmly and professionally. Your reply is read by every future customer who finds that review, not just the person who left it. A composed, non-defensive response that acknowledges the experience and offers to put things right often earns more trust than the review lost you. Never argue or blame the customer in public.
Very much. Reviews are among the strongest signals for the local map pack, and recency and steadiness count as well as the total — a regular flow of fresh reviews signals an active, trusted business. Reviews that mention your specific service and town also strengthen your relevance. The same reviews help AI assistants decide to recommend you.
